For centuries, women in West Africa have called shea butter “women’s gold.” Extracted from the nuts of the shea tree (Butyrospermum parkii), it has been treasured for its ability to soften and protect in some of the world’s most challenging climates.

The shea tree itself is extraordinary. It begins to bear fruit only after 15-20 years and can live for centuries. From one kilogram of nuts, only around 400 grams of butter are produced. Harvesting and processing are performed by women who pass the skill from generation to generation - a tradition built on knowledge, patience and care.

What makes shea butter unique?

Shea butter is a natural emollient - from the Latin emolliere, “to soften.” More than simple moisture, it nourishes and forms a delicate protective layer that helps minimise water loss.

Its composition is remarkable. Vitamins A, E and F support renewal and help maintain a
healthy, relaxed appearance. Essential fatty acids - oleic, stearic, palmitic and linoleic provide lasting hydration and encourage suppleness.
